May I throw an amusing "wrinkle" into this point. If you are a half
first cousin to a person through your mother AND a half first cousin
to the same person through your father, then you are genetically a
full first cousin to that individual, sharing two grandparents in
common. It's fun to work this out, and it doesn't necessitate
relatives marrying each other.
