different genealogy software.

I would not use the programs on the CD as they are probably very
limited and cannot export in a current GEDCOM file.

Either the PAF or Legacy would be a good starting program for you.

But I strongly recommend that you go to your library and read,
first, several general books on genealogy research, second, on
French and Polish genealogy research and third, on Genealogy and the
Internet.

Visit a Family History Center and buy the Research guides on France
and Poland and see what resources the FHL has on these two
countries. Visit
http://www.familysearch.org/
and
http://www.rootsweb.com/
and look for you family names.
