I can't help with NY - I never did any research there, but now that
you have identified the location, maybe someone else can help.
I'm pretty sure NY is a closed adoption state - meaning the records
can only be opened with a court order.
Sometimes you can find birth announcements in newspapers. There are
lists you can join concerning NY, and other lists related to
adoption.
