Subject: Hiring A Researcher at NEHGS
Date: Wed, 2 Nov 2005 06:31:58 -0800 (PST)

I am interested in paying someone to search a specific manuscript
collection in the possession of the New England Historic
Genealogical Society. The collection in question apparently
consists of two cartons and one box of records. I want to have the
manuscripts seached in order to identify the sources relied upon by
the compiler of the manuscripts in identifying the wife of one
ancestor and the parents of another ancestor. Thus, the scope of
the research is quite limited.

The NEHGS has a research service, but charges $65 per hour for
research time. This price seems very steep since the only other
time I paid a researcher, I only paid $25 per hour (at Swarthmore's
Friend's Historical Library). I could see this project taking a few
hours, and don't want to pay $200 for it.

Can someone recommend a competent researcher at the NEHGS who could
undertake this research for a more reasonable price?
