James Edward Rogers born July 22, 1785 Shinnstown, Harriston County, West
Virginia. Emigrated to Canton, Fulton County, Illinois in 1838 and died
December 22, 1866 on his family farm just North East of Shinnstown, Knox
County, Illinois, just South East of Douglas, Knox County, Illinois and just
South West of Yates City Illinois. Originally buried on the family farm after
his death. Was known as "Edward Rogers", and only has Edward Rogers on his
gravestone. His grave, along with his wife was moved into the Yates City
Cemetery in the 1960's when the family farm was strip mined. (Don't you just
"Hate" that). James Edward Rogers was married February 5, 1805 in Harrison
County, West Virginia to Elizabeth Wood, who was born June 27, 1883 (June 7,
1783) Tenmile, Harrison County, West Virginia. She died April 5, 1849 on

Over the past two weeks, I have received private emails from two brand
new cousins, with more information on the descendants of John Rogers born
1680 and his wife Isabelle Orrell in Charles County Maryland. John Rogers
born 1680 and Isabelle Orrell had son Richard Rogers born 1714 Charles
County, Colony of Maryland and died in 1774 in Fairfax County, West Virginia
after marrying Mary Muschett in 1734 in Charles County, Maryland. (Note:
Madilyn (Turner) Rogers, wife of Glenn Everette Rogers of Yates City Illinois
first established the date of birth of John Rogers born 1680). (Glenn and
Madilyn Rogers became extremely rich because he was left the family farm,
which he sold to the strip mine, received a large settlement when his father
William Harrison Rogers was hit by a drunk driver working for the Rozell Milk
Company in Peoria Illinois and invested in Kraft Cheese in 1930). (Glenn and
Madilyn Rogers had no children, donating the money to many charities and to
help Yates City Illinois. Madilyn is best known for her helping others to
join the DAR, and walking into Court Houses with her checkbook open, stating
"I want to buy a copy of every Rogers document you have". Madilyn is still
living, but is not of sound mind as the result of several strokes. Her home
in Yates City Illinois is being considered to be used for a Yates City
Historical Society, and to house her massive collection of Rogers Documents.
If my health holds out, I may become the administrator of this Historical
Society according to the wishes of the family.
Their Children:
William Rogers born October 3, 1741 m Frances Hornbuckle
James Edward Rogers born 1744 m Amelia Sibba George
Richard Rogers born 1747
Molly Rogers born 1750
Polly Rogers born 1753 m Thomas Dyer
Rhodam Rogers born 1756 m Mildred Nelson
If you connect to any of the above information or find you do so in the
future, I'd be very interested in receiving such information in exchange for
what I have here. Everything on this line and many others, is included in the
Rogers/Rodgers Family Database for review.
For those of you who don't post much on your family lines, thinking that
if you do you won't get anything new, ever time I post information about my
family heritage, I meet new online cousins. If you read this, post your
information. One of the children, or some little piece of information in your
files is just the piece of connection needed to find new family history.
