Dear Listers,
My name is Sharolyn Redfern and I live in Alberton, South Africa. I am
hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on my George Family.
Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.
My Grandfather was Frank William GEORGE born on board ship in Hong Kong on
12 November 1911. I am told that his father Walter Wallace GEORGE (married
to Gladys Ivy DAVY) was send to India in the War by the military but at the
last minute orders were changed and they were sent to Hong Kong. I am only
guessing that he must have been a high ranking officer to have his family
travelling with him. The GEORGE family came to South Africa in about 1920
(I have not been able to find them on any shipping lists to confirm this) It
is possible that they came to South Africa due to Walter's ill health and
were possibly aided as they were very poor. It is also possible that both
Frank and Walter were involved in the Wars here in South Africa on the
side of the British. Walter was a very talented musician and was in a
military band. He played the drums and the saxophone.
Walter Wallace GEORGE was born in Birmingham in March 1883. With the help
of the LDS website I think his father was Harry GEORGE (married to Eliza)
also born in Birmingham in about 1858.
This is all I have managed to find out about them. Please is there anyone
out there who can help me. I would be most grateful.
Sharolyn Redfern
