Dawna..... I have finally had time to look up the data I have on Gerloch
George (my gg grandfather) I have found the church records from
Liebenscheid, Germany (Parish register baptisms, marriage, deaths, and
confirmations (1688-1876). #1528557 and #1528558 FHL, Salt Lake City on
microfilm The Records are written in German, but one is able to recognize
the names and dates....... Incidently, I have visited the Lutheran Church
in Liebenscheid, Germany, and saw the books first hand. Will include some
pictures

I have put together a timeline of Gerlach George's life which I will attach
(the items that I have proof for are in BOLD with the sources, the other are
things that I assume or heresay or haven't been proven with a source

In my notes, I have found a Chr. George arrived from Bremen into Baltimore
in June 4, 1866 ...could have been Christian, as the time span is close and
Gerlach's family left from Bremen and arrived in Baltimore. (Ancestry.com
Baltimore Passenger and Immigration Lists, 1820-1872) I also found a
Freidrich Wilhelm on Ancestry.com Baltimore Passenger and Immigration
Lists, 1820-1872 records, He arrived on Feb 10, 1852 from Bremen to
Baltimore. Gerlach and family arrived in 1853 (?) after Helene was born,
and it is believed that the baby died at sea....... We know that Katharine
was born in Leavenworth Co., KS...

The name Gerloch is definitely German. I have been told that he went by
Kellogg here in U.S. (maybe Kellogg is the English version of Gerlach??)

Also look up Dee Seitel () and Larry R. Knudsen
() on Ancestry.com in the Family tree section

Do you have any dates on Gerloch and Christian born, and who they married
and where you found this information in SLC? I have a Jans Christian
(Kristien) and this is the first time I have seen any reference to a
Christian. I am heading to SLC main library Monday and would love to
research this .

Thank you
Dawna

I have been reading the rantings about being teased about your last name. I
too experienced the same "nicknames" that everyone else has had happen. So
guess it's more common than I thought.

As for the origin of the name George: I had always thought it was English,
but when I started researching, I found that my George ancestors immigrated
to the U.S. in 1850s from Germany. In German, the last name was spelled
without the last E........ Georg. The E was added here in the U.S. Gerloch
George and his family landed at Leavenworth, KS where there was quite a
large number of German immigrants; in fact they started a German Lutheran
school for the children.

I have found a lot of info on my gg grandfather and his immediate family,
but I have "hit with the brickwall" when looking for his brother, Christian
George, who, I think, came a few years after Gerloch and his family. I'm
certain that he didn't settle in Leavenworth, KS, but where??? Both Gerloch
and Christian were born, baptized, and married in Leibenscheid, Germany. I
have found those records from Salt Lake City.

I am curious if there is anyone out there from this line of the GEORGE's.

Subject: [GEORGE] Origins of GEORGE

I began my genealogy quest way back in 1975. My mother had claimed her
GEORGE roots were Irish, but most everyone would tell me, "GEORGE is an
English name". So I began my quest. I've found my paternal lines with
ease. My mother's maternal lines were a breeze. Here it is more than 30
years later, and I've only gone back as far as the early 1800s Philadelphia
with my GEORGE line and can't find what happened to my GEORGE
great-grandparents in the after 1907. My grandfather died in 1934 and took
all his knowledge with him. The lines connecting to the GEORGEs have been
easier to trace, but those GEORGE people are tough.

I remember telling my mother I thought her family name was really JAMES and
her grandfather must have been Jesse and his brother was probably Frank, so
to be on the safe side, the family changed their name to GEORGE. She didn't
appreciate my humor.

Washington GEORGE? Oh, that must be a killer to do searches on.

>From my research, I've found many GEORGEs in the Philadelphia and
Pittsburgh areas of Pennsylvania and the surrounding counties. I don't know
if they were ultimately related.

Alexa
Not a GEORGE by name but one by bloodline
