Thanks, Denise. I have been to the Columbia County historical society and do have the obit for Jonathon George, but I can't seem to get further back--his father and mother. The obit seems to confirm that he was NOT born in Germany, as family members seem to believe. But thank you for this tip and perhaps I'll try digging around the historical society some more. I only spent a short few hours there before.

Jennifer,
I would start with his obituary and then work your way back. Columbia County
historical society in Bloomsburg has an online index of some obituaries and
there is one listed for Jonathon George. It only costs about $3 to get a copy.

They also have a surname file for the surname George. This is where they have
tried to gather some various resources or lists of researchers for this surname.

I am searching for German Georges in PA, one of whom is Jonathan George (or
possibly Johan Georg). My Jonathan George was born somewhere around 1798 (I
think) and lived in Columbia County, PA, in later years. I'm not sure where he
was born, but he could have been from Lancaster Co. since it is very close to
Columbia Co., especially during those years. Where did you get the information
you have listed here? Could you share?

After years of dead end, I recently stumbled on to a German George family with

* Last in my line that I feel sure of, the rest fits but still seems a little
shaky.

Thanks for an information, Michael George
