Subject: [GA] Macon Library findings

Hi,

Sorry to post this to the list, those not interested please delete this
letter.
As promised here is what I found at the Washington Memorial Library.

This library does have a large genealogy room, and the staff is very helpful.
The day I went it was extremely crowded, but from a comment I overheard this
is not the normal case. Everyone was curtious however, so it did not matter
that it was crowded.

They have a large microfilm collection, I would say comparable to University
of Georgia's Library. The staff had to get the film for you, and this is much
easier than UGA. There is a card catalog for the film seperate from the
books. They had many books on different Surnames (unfortunately none of mine)
and several books on different states. I found it interesting that they had
some books from Ireland and England. this library is particularly good for
research of middle GA. I found copies for Marion County Wills, and they had
this sort of thing for some GA counties. I thought the $.20 a copy was a
little unusual, everywhere else I've ever been is $.10 at UGA it's $.07.
Not a big deal though if you don't make a lot of copies.

I was impressed with this library, but I have had better luck at others. I
like the UGA library better, and secondly the Bulloch County Library, but if
it's not to far to drive to go to the Washington Memorial Library it's worth
the trip. If you are researching middle GA it is definately worth your trip
there.

If anyone wnats more information about Washington Memorial, UGA, GSU, Bulloch
Co. Regional, and/or Chatham County libraries email me and I'll be glad to
share what I have found.

Cathy

Has anyone been to libraries in the Atlanta area? I heard a rumor that there
is a good library in Gwinnett county, but other than going to the mall :-)
great mall, I haven't spent much time there. Thanks.
