Many thanks to Gary Martens for posting the information about the
various ship lists! While I was aware of some of the lists, there were
some ones that were new to me.
In the past, I have used Lou Alfano's and Toni Cimorelli's databases for
information about the steamships on which my ancestors came to America
in the early 1900s. I have had good results, especially with Alfano's
list.
Using the new lists posted by Gary, I tried to search for an English
ship on which my Volga German ancestors travelled from Germany to Russia
in 1766. Imagine my excitement when I found the name of the ship (Love
& Unity) on American Plantations and Colonies - Early Ship Passenger
Lists (http://www.primenet.com/~langford/gen_page.htm). That means that
the same ship that transported German colonists to the Volga colonies
also transported colonists to the American colonies.
The list did not provide any information about the Love & Unity besides
its name. However, now that I have confirmed the correct name of the
ship, this opens up a new and fascinating avenue for research.
Has anyone else obtained information about any of the ships on which our
Volga ancestors travelled to Russia in the 1760s? If so, please share
this with our group.
