Eileen Wahlert dies at 82

Eileen E. Wahlert, 82, a former Brush resident, died Sunday in Yankton, S.D.
Mrs. Wahlert was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in Duquoin, Kan., to Silas and Ethel
Hagler. When she was six months old, the Hagler family moved to the Hillrose
community. She attended school at the Roosevelt School and graduated as
valedictorian of the Hillrose High School. She later attended Success
Business School in Denver.

On May 18, 1942, she married Robert Wahlert in Sidney, Neb. They farmed in
the Hillrose area until 1946 when they moved to Snyder. They adopted two
children, Robert Dale in 1946 and Linda Lou in 1950. Both children were at
the Colorado Children's Home in Denver when they were adopted.

She held several jobs, working at the post office in Hillrose, as a cook at
the Hillrose School, waitress, restaurant owner and an insurance agent. Mrs.
Wahlert enjoyed crocheting, knitting, oil painting, quilting and line
dancing. She was a member of the Snyder Methodist Church, Home Builders Club
and served as director for several years on the Council on Aging, the Brush
Housing Authority Board and the Brush Rodeo Association and had served as
president of the Snyder Community Council. The Brush Rodeo Association in
1993 honored her as the Outstanding Pioneer.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kudera of Tabor, S.D.; one sister,
Beth Fredrick of Aurora; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Dale; two sisters and her
parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:30-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Heer Mortuary Chapel,
222 Cameron St. in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial
Cemetery.

Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Brush Senior Center or to
the Snyder Methodist Church.
