Don & Dorothy,

There are more and more Canadian resources on the web. Here are a few
of my favorites.

The granddaddy of immigrant information to Canada (and other areas) is
the Odessa Digital Library at:

http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/content.html

All the ship lists from 1900 to 1914 arriving at the ports of Quebec,
Halifax and St. John have been indexed for Germans from Russia by George
Dorscher.

First try searching for your surnames by clicking on the "Full Text
Search" button on this page. Then type in your surname in the "Search
String" box and choose "Ship and Immigration records" from the Data
category box. It will only find matches with the exact spelling. Often
names on ship lists are misspelled or written sloppily so try searching
for all possible variations of your surname. You can also browse the
index of ship lists at:

Another resource, just announced is the 1906 canadian census of the
Northwest provinces at:

http://www.archives.ca/02/020153_e.html

This includes the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. You
cannot search by surname, just by Province, District Name, District
Number, and Sub-district Number. Its a little tricky to figure out how
to use this site, but once you do, it works wonderfully.

Also visit the Canadian National archives genealogy research page:

David Obee has an interesting collection of resources and tips for
Canadian research.

The LDS family research guide for Canada is excellent. The link is a
little long so you will probably need to cut and paste it into your
browser

What is your ancestral village and where did your family settle?
