Cheryl,
this is wonderful news. Congratulations to the Canadians that are making
this project happen.

I was also doing a little indexing of the 1906 census, just the GRs in
Calgary. I don't know how far I will get, but I will add it to the
German Volga web site when I get enough. My list will not be
comprehensive so it would not be meaningful to contribute to the Alberta
Family Histories Society project.

I have found the Germans from Russia being listed as either German or
Russian, but not both in the census. Since I am familiar with many of
the GR surnames in Calgary I can identify them as GRs. Also when I find
a surname that I believe to be misspelled, I will add what I think is
the correct spelling of the surname to an additional column, leaving the
original spelling intact. For example I have seen the surname of
Schneidmiller spelled as Snudmyl or Sneidnyl, Kromm as Grum,
Pfafffenroth / Poffenroth as Pauffenworth, Morasch as Morris and Hergert
as Harriet.
