Herman Kreger
Herman Kreger, 90, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home. Mr. Kreger was born Nov. 23, 1914, to John and Amelia "Molly" Barret Kreger in Laurel, Mont. The family moved to the Sheridan area in 1920. Mr. Kreger served in the Army as a first sergeant from November 1943-January 1946. He ranched from 1937-40, then worked at Gambles Store and Northern Lumber Co. He worked at Sheridan Flouring Mill from 1947 until 1966 when it closed, and owned the Maytag Coin-Operated Laundry for 14 years until retiring in 1978. He married Mabel Schnorf on Jan. 14, 1938. She preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage. He married Ruth (Howarth) Badget on July 8, 1988. He was commander of the American Legion from 1957-58. He enjoyed travel, hunting and fishing in the Big !
Horn Mountains and on Lake DeSmet. He was an avid gardner and was honored for "Yard of the Week" one summer. He had a collection of 85 or more caps. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Herman Edward Kreger, in 1963; two brothers, John and Victor; a sister, Emma Lee Nelson; and a grandson. Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; two daughters, Karen Lee Roth and Donna Kay Kepp; a stepson, Wayne T. Wagner; two sisters, Millie Loeber and Esther Badget (Tink); seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church building program in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
*Note: Amelia "Molly" Barret was the daughter of Georg Barret and Eva Michel of Dietel. Eva Michel was previously married to Peter Kindsvater/Kindsfater of Dietel.--Rita Cook Price, great granddaughter of Eva Michel.
