Marvin Harry Richard
Marvin Harry Richard, 72, of Lake Minatare/Scottsbluff, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Gering, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery with military rites by Nebraska National Guard.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the family or to the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge #1367, 1614 First Avenue, Scottsbluff, NE 69361.
Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 9 a.m.- 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1.

Marvin was born to Fred and Anna (Herdt) Richard on March 23, 1932, in rural Scotts Bluff County. He was the 7th of 11 siblings. Marvin was confirmed in the Gering Zion Church on April 6, 1947. Marvin attended school in Melbeta, and then enlisted in the Marines on August 23, 1952 and was honorably discharged on May 22, 1955. While serving in the Korean War, he was decorated with, the Bronze Star with Combat Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Marvin was wounded in action on April 8, 1953. While stationed in Hastings,, he met and married Donna Lee McNeff, and from this union three children were born, Douglas Lee, Debra Jo and Marvin Allan, the marriage later ended in divorce. He worked for Farmland Industries/Cooperative Refinery Association in Scottsbluff, retiring after 30 years of service in 1987.
Marvin enjoyed his retirement years at the lake. He also enjoyed working in his garden, fishing and playing cards. He loved his family very much and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. All that knew him will miss him.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Cheryl Richard of Nampa, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Len Burns of Gering; and son, Marv Richard of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Lee Francisco of Ft. Collins, Colo., Ashley Richard and fiancé,' Shawn Harper of Dalhart, Texas, Sarah Francisco of Scottsbluff, and Aryonna and Nathan Richard of Nampa; sister, Joann Rein of Gering; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Al Reiber and Shirley and Ervin Martin all of Scottsbluff; brothers and sister-in-law, Harold and Bertha Richards of Scottsbluff and Jerry Richard of Omaha.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and John Gross, Helen and Jake Conrad, brothers, Rueben Richard and Wilbert Richard and brother-in-law, Kenneth Rein.
