OAKLAND, Calif. - Tess Misner, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Kaiser Rehabilitation Center with her daughter Nancy Martin at her side. A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Oakland Scottish Rite Temple. Inurnment is at Mountain View Cemetery. Job's Daughters Bethels Numbers 1 Dublin, 12 Alameda, 14 Pleasanton, 65 Merced, 174 San Jose, 175 San Leandro, 247 Danville, 253 Fremont are in charge of arrangements.

Tess was born in Bayard, Dec. 30, 1917, to Thomas O. and Jean (Everett) Richardson. She attended Scottsbluff schools graduating with the class of 1936. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church playing the organ and piano and teaching Sunday School. She was active in Campfire Girls and Job's Daughters and was honored Queen of Bethel 10 in 1937. Tess married Wilber Misner Feb. 5, 1939, in Gering. They moved to Oakland, Calif. in August of 1939. Their daughters, Carol was born in 1943 and Nancy in 1946. She and Wilbur had 52 years together before his death in 1991.
Tess was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader and served as President of PTA. When her daughters joined Job's Daughters she became a member of the Guardian Council and then a Guardian in 1966. Both daughters became Honored Queens of the Bethel. She was appointed Deputy Grand Guardian and in 1982 was Grand Guardian of the State of California. In 1996 she became Supreme First Messenger. Tess belonged to Diablo Star Chapter 274 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Starlets, Oakland Scottish Rite ladies Club a sweetheart of San Leandro Lodge 113, Orinda Lodge 122 and Oakland Durant Rockridge Lodge 188 for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Bill) Martin of Oakland, Calif.; son-in-law, Gary Armstrong of Hayward, Calif.; grandchildren, James and Anna Martin, and Tim and Bryan Armstrong; brother, Everett Richardson of Ft. Collins, Colo.; sister, Pat Michalek of Scottsbluff; sisters-in-law, Naomi Lopez of Billingham, Wash., Christine Richardson of Alexander City, Ala., Peggy Carrell of Scottsbluff, Margaret Misner of Gering, Mary Misner of Mitchell and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Wilbur, daughter Carol Armstrong and brother Charles Richardson.
