Don Hoffman wrote a good abbreviated "how to access SOAR" but here are a few
other things to consider: if you use more than one keyword for your search
criteria, remember to click the AND button (below the keyword box) to select
the AND search option; the Help files (from the Search page) provide
information about using the date fields when searching the Obituary
database; to Bonnie Schuette and other non-AHSGR members - when you indicate
you wish to purchase a selected file, you will be asked for your AHSGR
member ID and password. If you are not a member simply click past this page
and non-member rates apply. If you are a member and haven't requested your
ID and password, send a message to as explained near
the bottom of the Home Page. I'll send the information and you may then
continue the use of SOAR (this isn't an instantaneous response so give me a
day or so to respond.) Bonnie, I also monitor the
mail box and if that is the address you used
when you attempted to contact the SOAR administrator I'm sorry but I
apparently missed your inquiry. Please try me again; users of satellite
systems to access the Internet can have browser timeout problems as Dick
Kraus described and the Hughes system seems to be our worst offender. We
know at least one user is successfully using the Wild Blue satellite system
http://www.wildblue.com/ for SOAR access (and this is not a promotion for
that system) while also using Microsoft Vista and the Netscape browser - so
satellite access is possible for some.

A new AHSGR member feature will be launched for SOAR late this Spring titled
Membership Plus. For a yearly subscription fee, AHSGR members will be able
to view images without the mask and an unlimited amount of file downloads
can be performed (and that includes the surname charts). More about this
will be posted later.

I'm pleased to see and read this dialog about the SOAR project. A brief
questionnaire was posted several years ago asking for feedback about the
project but there were virtually no responses. Without feedback, we have no
way to even consider what changes or improvements should be considered so I
and the SOAR committee thank you for the discussion. If someone wants to
make a comment privately, please consider sending it directly to me.
