Subject: [GERMAN-ALSATIAN] Surname endings

Hi,
Does anyone know the significance of an "en" ending of a surname? When a
cousin researched some birth, marriage and death records in Germany, he
found the following two incidences:
A surname that was usually spelled "DEEG" in most records was spelled
"DEEGEN" in one record.
A surname that was spelled "WENK" in some records was spelled "WENKEN" in
one.
Thank you very much for any information or suggestions you can provide.
Cathy Martin
