Hi, Maurice,

Not all acts of marriage tell the village where a bride or groom was born.
Some do others give a more general locale.

Another part of the puzzle is, what this a civil act or a church record?
There can be, but are not always, more than one record of the marriage.

A third option, do you know what his occupation was? In that time there
were
often extensive records kept by guilds if he belonged to one.

And there is always the possibility that what you need to answer your
question
was never recorded or was destroyed during one of the many wars that took
place
in that area over the centuries. Not what we want to hear, but it can be
the reality.

Some of the towns no longer exist with the names we know them by today and
many
were swallowed up by bigger towns that grew to include them. So a place
name may
be there but not be recognizable by today's geography.

This is another possible lead. This web site (which exists in many
languages) http://ddebus.free.fr/indexe.htm
has a way to enter your surname (patrynom in French) and it shows you the
towns and villages where that
surname existed. When I queried for your surname only one town came back:
NIEDERBRONN LES BAINS
That does not mean that is where your relative came from, but you could at
least try looking in the records of
that one town to see if your relative is listed.

Good Luck.

Laura
