My husband's ancestor William HIPP,
probably born in Germany, was the first mate
on a vessel sailing during the 1850-1860's
between Germany and Mexico,
where he married (wife's name unknown).
He later was in Covington, Kenton Co., KY,
where his son, Charles Atlanta HIPP, was born in the 1860's.
About 1885 Charles Atlanta HIPP married Gertrude JANNEY
of Lambertville, Monroe Co., MI,
and they lived in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH.
William HIPP had 2 brothers:
1) Maj.Charles HIPP of the Union Army,
who lost an arm in the Battle of Atlanta,
and was later in Yucatan and Honduras;
2) Dr. Augustus HIPP of Toledo, OH, m Carrie ___?.
one of the founders of the Toledo Medical College in 1882.

If anyone finds a connection with this HIPP family
or has suggestions for further research,
I will appreciate corresponding with you.
