Thank you for the information about the Schaffhausen family. With regard to the von Welsch, I heard something about a Maximilian von Welsch, who was a well-known architect in northern Germany during the Baroque period. Does anyone know which family he came from and whether he was related to the Schaffhausens?

The Schaffhausen were an old Westphalian noble family documented to 1248
that Kneschke says was extinct there by 1625, but a branch continued in Courland
at least to the mid 1800's. A likely seperate family, von Schaaffhausen, was
ennobled by the King of Prussia in 1904 and is still listed in the Gotha
(Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels.)
