Hello,
My grandfather, Matthias (or Hermann) Hirsch grew up in Hutthurm near
Passau.
He left Hutthurm around 1910 to join the merchant marine.
I assume he was born around 1890.
He, reputably, played near a river and a Monastary.
My father told me that his father told me that Hutthurm got its name from a
Monk who threw a cap onto a spot where the Monastary was to be built.
He had two sons, born in the Bronx, New York (one in 1915, the other in
1918).
My father was his son born in 1918.
I have no idea how to find any information about his history except to hope
that someone connected with your list has come across something that can
help me.
Thanking you for any possible assistance,
Art
