Rev. Crigler attended private and public schools and graduated from Roanoke
College in 1892. He taught for a year, the entered Gettysburg Theological
Seminary graduating in 1896. Roanoke College conferred the degree of Doctor
of Divinity upon hin in 1925.

He was ordained by the Maryland Synod in St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
Cumberland MD, 10/11/1896. From 1896 to 1915 he was pastor of St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, Lutherville MD and was Professor of Bible and Sacred
Literature at Maryland College. In 1912 he organized Holy Comforter
Lutheran Church, Baltimore and from 1912 to 1915 was Secretary of the
Maryland Synod.

He accepted a call to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Charlotte NC in 1915 and
remained there till 1948. Early in this period the congregation adopted a
new constitution and instituted rotation in office. A zoning system for
stewardship and evangelism was introduced. The Sunday School was
reorganized on a full graded system with a three year course for teachers.
The Luther League was organized for young people.

Rev. Crigler was a delegate to the merger convention of the ULCA in New
York in 1918 and to the seven succeeding meetings. He was active ion the
Board of Deacons Motherhouse, Baltimore and a member of the Committee on
Evangelism, ULCA. He was a member of the following boards and Committees of
Synod: Mont Amoena Seminary, NC College, Lenoir Rhyne College, Lutheran
Theological Southern Seminary, the executive committee and the examining
committee. He was President of the Charlotte Ministerial Association and of
the Reform League and for many years served as a member of the Board of
Associated Charities and Family Welfare.
