While searching for the ever elusive link of William Carpenter to his parents I found a nice article on the Criglar Mansion of Marianna, FL.
The mansion was originally built for Francis Roulhac Ely, a wealthy planter who came from Plymouth, NC in 1839. They lost their fortune during the war and moved away.
The mansion was bought by William Louis Criglar (1816-1893), prominent lumber man and state senator from Santa Rosa county. His son, Joseph M. Criglar was a lumber man who owned mills in Jackson, Liberty, Franklin counties. Joseph was married to Nella Russ. Their daughters were Floie Criglar Packard and Julia Criglar.
This is a Greek Revival architecture. One of the pieces of furniture is a 500 year old mahogany German hand-carved poster bed, 9' tall. There are several pieces of Empire furniture. Interesting place.
That makes Carpenters, Fleshmans and Criglars in the county. If I could just figure out who William's parents were, life would be grand. At least until the next lost branch.
