To members of the list,

I would like to share with you an experience my family had in Germany
this past August.

My Second Germanna Colony ancestor was Hans Michael Hold known in the
colony as Michael Holt. Michael was born in the Württemberg village of
Stetten am Heuchelberg in the latter part of 1696. He was christened in
the local church on 30 Dec 1696. Several generations of Holds and related
families had also been christened in the church which dates from 1050.

When we were planning our German itinerary, I mentioned I would like to
visit Stetten so that my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter could
see our ancestral hometown and the church where many of our family had
been christened. My daughter-in-law asked if it was possible to have her
daughter christened while we were there. You can imagine the goose bumps
I received on hearing the request.

To make a long story short, on the 17th of August, my granddaughter, Dana
Suzanne Talley, a tenth generation Holt, stood before the same baptismal
altar where Michael Holt was christened and became the first of his
descendants to be christened in Stetten.

The ceremony was performed in English by Pastor Hartmut Dürrwang during the
Sunday morning worship service. The pastor, his staff and members of the
village went out of their way to make the ceremony a very meaningful
experience for us. Needless to say it was the highlight of our three week
German vacation.
