&dDHUSBAND - Johann Paulus VOGT-18087&d@
See: Beyond Germanna, vol. 2, no. 4, page 98, for an article on John Paul VOGT
by Helen Spurlin, 1377, Diamond Springs, California 95619. She actually wrote a
three part article on the VOGT/FAUGHT family, vol. 2, nos. 2 and 3.
Johann Paul VOGT and his family (Wife and four children) arrived on 11 October
1733 on the "Charming Betty"and moved into the Valley of Virginia about 1744.
He proved his importation in Orange County, O.B. 1, 15 July 1735, page 25.
He was granted 640 acres of land on Deep Run, a branch of the Robinson River in
what is now Madison County, Virginia.
He later sold the land to William CAVE and moved to the Massanutten Mountain
area and patented land on the North River of the Shenandoah, 20 September 1745.
His will is dated 9 October 1759 and probated 18 August 1761.
He lived in the part of Augusta which later became Rockingham County, Virginia.
He was 53 years of age when he arrived.
His descendants spelled the name as VOGT, VOT, FAUT, FAUGHT, FOUGHT, WACHT,
WOCHT, and NACHT.
One of his daughters married a Christian CLEMENTS. They were the parents of
three known children: Gasper born about 1746 who died in Rockingham County;
John; and Maria Catherine who married a George TROUT who was a grandson of
David TROUT. Their son was David TROUT and he later married Susannah WHETZEL in
Rockingham County, 29 September 1787.
His place or birth and that of his sons was provided by Lisa WALDMAN,
IN%"" (1995). She also indicated that she is not
really certain that it was Frankfurt.
His will was dated 9 October 1758 and it was probated 18 August 1761.
&dDWIFE - Maria Catharina-18089&d@
She was 46 years of age when she arrived.
&dDCHILD 1 - Catharina Margret VOGT-18112&d@
She was apparently unmarried and the baptismal sponsor for her nephew, John
Gasper, in August of 1763. Did she marry Christian CLEMENTS rather than her
sister? Helen Spurlin, who has written several books on the family, believes
she did. Her address is: P.O. Box 1377, Diamond Springs, California 95619.
She was 18 years of age when she arrived in 1733.
&dDCHILD 2 - Maria Catharina VOGT-18113&d@
She was 16 years of age when she arrived in 1733.
Researcher: <. com> (1995).
Did she actually marry Christopher MAYER/MOYER? He was born 3 February 1708,
the son of hans Georg MAYER. Was her sister, also named Catharina, the wife of
Christian CLEMENTS?
Her will was probated in 1793.
&dDCHILD 3 - Johann Andreas VOGT Senior-18088&d@
Information on his descendants comes from Beyond Germanna, vol. 2, nos. 2 and
3, parts one and two of an article on John Paul VOGT by Helen Spurlin, P.O. Box
1377, Diamond Springs, California 95619. His place of birth comes from Lisa
WALDMAN, <> (1995).
He was 12 years of age when he arrived in 1733.
He and his wife were the parents of seven sons. This branch of the family

tended to spell the surname as VOGT although it was also often spelled VAUGHT.
There was an Andrew VOGT taking communion at Brickersville Lutheran Church in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1772 and 1773.
Six of his sons were with him in Montgomery County, Virginia in 1790 according
to a number of entries in Netti Shreiner-Yantis' Montgomery County, Virginia -
Circa 1790: A Comprehensive Study - including the 1789 Tax Lists, Abstracts of
Over 800 Land Surveys, and Data Concerning Migrations, p.p., 1972.
The following VOGT/VAUGHT names appear on the Tax List of Montgomery County,
Virginia, 1782: Andrew (Senior or Junior?), Chrisley, David, Gasper, George,
Henry, and John.
&dDCHILD 4 - Johann Gasper VOGT Senior-18085&d@
See: Beyond Germanna, vol. 2, no. 4, for part three of an article on John Paul
VOGT by Helen Spurlin, P.O. Box 1377, Diamond Springs, California 95619. That
source indicates that Gasper lived near North River as did his father, John
Paul. Gasper sold his land in the 1770's and in 1780 moved to a German
community in Botetourt County, Virginia, on the headwaters of the James River.
Specifically, in 1778 and 1780 he sold his land in Rockingham County, see pages
17 and 57 of Rockingham County, Virginia, Minute Book, 1778-1786, Part
1, 1778-1786, by Constance A. Levinson and Louise C. Levinson, p.p.,
1985.
He was 8 years of age when he arrived in 1733.
Page 126 of Seed-Bed of the Republic: Early Botetourt, by Robert Douthat
Stoner, p.p., 1962, indicates that he served in Botetourt during the American
Revolution.
Gasper's name last appears on the tax lists of Botetourt County in 1787.
A Casper FAUGHT died by May 1753 in Augusta County and left orphans, Conrad and
Jacob Cood, but he is not Casper/Gasper the son of John Paul VOGT. His
descendants spell the surname "FAUGHT."
