Karen,

When I was in high school, we were taught that the intermarriages would
cause mental defects. However, my children were taught in high school
that intermarriages do not necessarily cause mental defects. I think the
problem is when you have a very small group that is constantly
intermarrying (if that is a word). Once you start added other genes from
outside the limited gene pool, then the odds drop dramatically.

I think this is right. If not I am sure some one will tell us.
