Donna and CASHKILBY: If there WAS a second Jacob BROYLES, this
would be the first time that ANYONE has found a certifiable reference.
I truly believe that this document will turn out like the one that referred
to a second John BROYLES, who proved his importation in 1719.
Subsequent research has proved that this John BROYLES was actually
John BELL. Someone(?) had earlier seen the importation document,
and, extremely anxious to PROVE another branch of BROYLES immi-
grants, saw BELL as BROYLES.
If this 2nd Jacob BROYLES were to prove true, why is there no other
references ANYWHERE? This is an excellent example of why researchers
must NEVER rely on secondary documents for proof. There is just too
much room for a person doing an abstract or copy to misinterpret poor
penmanship. I'm not the BROYLES "guru", but I DO consider myself
knowledgeable of the BROYLES line and, like a Missourian, you would
have to show me the original document before I would even consider
this "second" Jacob BROYLES. There were two Jacobs in the area
about this time period, one, Hans Jacob, was the son of the immigrant
Johannes BREYHEL (John BROYLES), the second was the son of
Hans Jacob. Hans Jacob was born 1705 and Jacob 1735. The first,
Hans Jacob, would have been of the right age, but he immigrated with
his father in 1717; this is 100% documented and he could not have
been one of the eight persons upon whom John MANSPIEL received his
400 acres of land. From ALL documents from that period, there has
never been another Jacob BROYLES found that would satisfy the re-
quirements to fit this scenario. Plus, there has never been ANY
BROYLES found who has been associated with the HAUSE or
MANSPEIL families.
Again, I believe that this is just a misinterpretation of poor handwriting.
If someone could find and view the original document from which this
comes, it would be interesting to see the actual name.
