Subject: Beyond Germanna, January 2000 Issue

The first issue of volume twelve of Beyond Germanna went into the mail
before Christmas. I saw no reason to tempt the Y2K bug to chew up issues
(the post office can take care of its own). It was a good thing that I did
adopt this policy as the Y2K bug did strike – me, personally. I have been
laid out, literally, for the better part of a week but I'm feeling better
and look forward to resuming my regular habits. With this issue, it makes 67
issues that have been delivered to the readers at the time promised.

The issue's lead article is "The Lotspeich Family" and there were several
contributors to this. Editing the material was a learning experience on both
the Lotspeich and Jacoby families. The editor made a study, in an article
entitled "Arrivals of Germans at Philadelphia, 1727 to 1741" where arrivals
at this major port were irregular. Brigitte Wiehle contributed a short note
on "Infant Mortality." A major contributor on the Germanna Colonies list
service, Suzanne Collins Matson, has an article, "Green Manuscripts." [Many
Fauquier families moved to South Carolina, including the Green family with
Kemper, Rector, Holtzclaw, and Utterback connections.] Brenda J. Thomas adds
new information in "The First Wife of Bennett Rector." Ruth Blankenbaker had
made available information from "The James T. and Eliza (Christler)
Blankenbaker Bible" which includes cross checks to other notes and
documents. A previously published chart on the first generations of the
second family of John Hoffman has been updated and corrected.
