THOMAS WILLHOIT

Thomas "Tom" Willhoit, 89, of Atascadero, CA died Friday, June 9, 2000, at
his home from complications from a stroke.

Private family services will be held. Cremation will take place. Inurnment
will be at Templeton District Cemetery.

Mr. Willhoit was born May 25, 1911, in Crowel, TX, to Mary Henderson Willhoit
and the Rev. John B. Willhoit. A year later the family moved to California
to the Central Valley, spending two years in Woodbridge near Stockton, CA.
They then spent two years in Fresno, CA, where the Rev. Willhoit was pastor
for the Presbyterian churches there.

In 1916, the family moved to Templeton, CA and Thomas Willhoit graduated from
Templeton Grammar School and Templeton Union High School. He was an
enthusiastic basketball player, high-jumper and half-miler.

He married his high school sweetheart, Naomi Sliber, in 1930, and they were
married for 20 years until her death in 1950.

Mr. Willhoit spent three years in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
After the war he built many custom homes in the Templeton and Atascadero
areas. When Atascadero State Hospital was built in 1954 he began working
there. He started as a carpenter and retired 25 years later as general
services administrator.

He is survived by his wife Catherine Willhoit of Atascadero, CA; daughters
Mary Tooley and family of Sandy, OR, and Barbara Shultz and family of
Henderson, NV; a brother Neil Willhoit of Arroyo Grande, CA; and three
granddaughters, two grandsons, four great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter
and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero, CA.
