Annette and Ann

You expressed an interest in William "Father" Carpenter's grave site. The
tombstone stands about 3ft high and is a semicircle at the top. There is a
simple inscription which reads as follows:
William Carpenter
Died
Feb. 18, 1833
Aged
70yrs 8mths 29dys

The bronze DAR plaque reads:

REVOLUTIONARY
SOLDIER
WM. CARPENTER
1775 1783

Let me know if you would like further information about his descendents and
I will see if I can be of help.

Also, articles are written about William Carpenter in the following:

History of The Lutheran Church in Virginia and Tennessee, Edited by C. W.
Cassell, W. J. Finck, and Elon O. Henkel, Shenandoah Publishing House, Inc.,
Strasburg, Virginia, 1930

American Lutheran Biographies
Archives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, 8765 W. Higgins
Road, Chicago, IL 60631-4198

If you don't have access to these publications and want copies of the
articles, let me have your snail mail address and I will send them to you.
