Thebolt Christler's Will - Transcript

(Culpeper Co. Will Book B,page 185)

In the name of God Amen the Twentieth day of February in the year of our
Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy six according to the
Computation of the Church of Great Britten, I Tebolt [sic] Christler of
Culpeper County being of perfect memory and Remembrance praised be God,
Do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following,
Viz,

First I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Maker hopeing
through the meritorious Death and Passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour
and Redeemer to receive free pardon & forgiveness of all my sinsand as
for my body to be buried in a Christian Burial at the Descration of my
Executors hereafter nominated.

Item, I give to my beloved wife Rosanna the plantation whereupon I now
do live during her natural life, also my hogs, cattle, household Furniture
and all movables whatever I possess and then after her Decease I give the
sd [said] Lands to be Equally divided between my sons. Viz Henry Christler,
George Christler, Adam Christler, Michael Christler, Leonard Christler
& David Christler to them and their heirs forever. Also [after?] my wife's
Decease I give to my Daughter Catharine a feather bed and cow and calf
and pan to demand when she pleases and the rest of my Cattle, household
furniture, hogs [illegible] I give to my daughters to be Equally divided
between, Viz, Dortha Broyles, Mary Carpenter, Elisabeth Wilhoit, Margaret
Clore and Catharine Christler to them and their heirs foreverand I do make
Henry Christler and George Christler their [illegible] Executors of this
my Last will and Testament Revoking all other wills Ratifying [?] and Confirming
this and no other to be my Last and Testament. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal the date and year first above mentioned.

At a Court held for Culpeper County the 18th dayof November 1776, This
last will and Testament of Thebolt Christler Deceased was Exhibited to
the Court by the Executors therein named and was proved by the oaths of
two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion
of the Executors Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probat thereof
in due form they having sworn to the same & given bond & [security?] according
to law.
