Gov. Spotswood died in 1740 so he wasn't in the Rev. War, but his grandson,
also named Alexander, was a General in the Rev. War.
Maybe I'm misreading your posting, but are you asking if Gov. Spotswood and
Gen. Smallwood are one and the same? No they are not. Gen. Smallwood was from
Maryland and many places there are named after him (ie: Smallwood State Park,
and at one time there was a small area known as Smallwood- which is now part
of St. Charles Village- a community in Waldorf, Charles County, MD).
