Spotswood's mines......and John's digging up documents and arguments locating
and adjusting previously dear assumptions may leave not only me confused.
May I ask a few precise questions with the hope for a yes/no answer?
1) Was there a silver mine?
2) Do we know the location?
3) Was silver not legally the king's property (Mines Royal)?
4) Were the German "miners" hired by Spotswood directly?
5) Where they hired to work as miners?
6) Did they know where they were going when they left Siegen?
7) Shouldn't someone rewrite the first page of the Germanna. org ?
8) Does this mean that the Germanna shrine in VA should undergo a reformation
and redecoration or at least re-emphases?
I have my own answers to some of these questions; but I would very much
welcome precise answers from John, or anyone who has done as much research on
Germanna over the past 20 years.
(Maybe if we can locate the silver mines we could dig out some and finance
the long overdo excavation of the orginial site of Fort Germanna....hire a
knowledgable resident for the Visitor Center.....build "a baker's dozen"
cabins for researching visitors nearby [preferable pioneer style] to house
the digging archeology students or Mrs & Mr Germanna descendant...or a coupe
of scholarship students doing research......... and publish updated pamphlets
that are historically correct and dependable for all members of family and
history research? Ah, to dream into the future.......with the past on our
heels)
