Dear List Members:

I will need to unsubscribe shortly due to pressing family matters, but
wanted to try one more time to connect with any cousins who might be able to
fill in some gaps on this family.

Am particularly interested in additional info on the Brown, Daniel and
Glovier families and also am interested in info on the Nay wives (Jacob m.
Mary ? -Joseph m. Frances MAHORNEY -Sanford m. Nancy BENNETT). IF ANYONE
CAN SHED LIGHT ON JONATHON BROWN, I WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATIVE.

My husband's grandmother was Lillie Mae Glovier, sixth child of Jacob
Clifford Glovier (b.~1861) and Mary Lucinda Nay
-- Mary Lucinda Nay was the fifth child of William and Harriett E. Brown
Nay (Jacob-Joseph-Sanford-William-Mary Lucinda). She was born in Edgar Co.
8/4/1858 and m. on 2/17 or 18/1877 to 1st husband Joel Thornton Stark b.
10/2/1856, d. 4/5/1879. No known children.
-- Mary Lucinda then married on 7/28/1885 Jacob C. Glovier b. 3/25/1861,
son of Derrick Glovier and Mary Ann Simmers of VA. (the marriage record
lists her under her 1st husband's name - Stark - and Jacob's Glovier's name
is misspelled). They had 8 children; at least the first 6 were born in
Illinois. Wm Derrick, b. 1867, d. shortly after birth; Bertha Lovina b.
1888; Clifford Ashby b. 1889, (m. 1, Lizzie STREET, m2 Marie READHIMER);
Walter Adlen b. 1892 (m. Pauline REETMAN), ; Nettie Ethel b. 1894 (m. Arthur
MOORE); Lillie/Lily Mae b. 1896 (m. Quilla Joe Daniel); Dora Inez, b. 1897
(m. Roy P. HILL); Luther Edgar b. 1901 (m. Linnie LANGLEY).
-- I got this from the Nay Genealogy book written by Edgar Omar Nay in 1944
and confirmed from handwritten notes left by Mary Lucinda Nay Glovier.
-- At some point the family ended up in Amarillo Texas. According to my
father-in-law, when his grandparents moved to TX, they came by train that
they rented and brought their own wood and carpenters as TX didn't have the
wood with which to build. Apparently they moved because their eldest
daughter Bertha had TB and they needed a drier climate.

Lillie Mae Glovier m. Quilla Joe Daniel, the son of James Warren Daniel and
Stella Ann Collins. They had four sons, all living. She lived to be 99,
just shy of 100. Her father Jacob Glovier died in 1917 so was about 56.

In 1965 Lillie Mae nee Glovier Daniel wrote a note regarding an apothecary
jar holding flowers made from human hair:
"This apothecary is over 200 years old. It belonged to Mrs.Q. J. Daniel's
great grand father, Dr.Brown of Edinburg, Scotland, It was used to hold
pills on a shelf in his office. The flowers are made with human hair and was
made by Mrs. Daniel's Aunt Harriet Nay in 1875 (90 years ago)."

The jar and flowers are still in the family's possession. The jar is now
over 236 years old. The flowers must have been made in 1875, making them
126-7 years old.

The question is, who is this Dr. Brown? When/where did he arrive in the
United States? and, which Harriett was it that made the flowers?

According to the Edgar Omar Nay book - nothing is ever easy with
genealogy.....

William Nay, first child of Sanford and Nancy (Bennett) Nay married Harriett
E. Brown, daughter of Jonathan Brown. Their 5th child was Mary Lucinda Nay
who married Jacob Clifford Glovier. They were Lillie Mae's parents.
Harriett Nay died in 1903 when Lillie Mae was 7 years old. Harriett's
father Jonathan Brown would have been Lillie Mae's great grandfather. If
this Harriett made the hair flowers in 1875, Harriett would have been 28
years old at the time she made the flowers as she was born in 1827. But,
this Harriett was not Lillie Mae's aunt, she was her grandmother. William
and Harriett had a daughter, Harriett Lavina, b. Mar. 9, 1865, who would
have been 10 at the time the flowers were made, and would be Lillie Mae's
aunt.

Now to make things interesting, Harriett's father, Jonathan Brown (middle
initial W. as it turns out) married Elce Nay, fourth child of Sanford Nay,
sister to William in 1842. So, Harriett Brown was the step-daughter of
William's sister Elce and became Elce's sister-in-law upon Harriett's
marriage to William in 1847.

BTW - I haven't been able to pursue the census records extensively yet, but
Jonathan W. Brown's father may be Jonathan B. Brown who is listed in Edgar
County in 1820, as 40-50 years old with a son 20-30 (my guess is that this
Harriett's father), another son 15-20 and 3 sons 10-15 (females in the
household were 2 @ 5-10 and wife @ 40-50). There are quite a few Illinois
land records for Jonathan Browns but have not had time to investigate those
yet.

It is at least possible that Lillie was confused about who was the Doctor,
and it was actually the Jonathan B. Brown, not Jonathan W. Brown.

There are Jonathan Brown's in KY in the 1800-1810 time frames but no way of
knowing if they are the same ones or if they knew the Nays in KY (the Nays
moved to IL in 1831).

Thanks in advance-
Jan Daniel
