I have done some research on the Clore family, all descendants of the
immigrant Hans Michael Klaar (aka Michael Clore) who settled in Viriginia in
1717. At this time I have found no evidence that any of the
Clower/Cloer/Cloar families are linked to the Germanna Clore family. If
someone has evidence to the contrary, and not just that the immigrant
Michael had two grandsons named Michael one of whom seems to have
disappeared from Virginia records and then there were Cloers in North
Carolina, I would sure like to hear about it. I do know that there were
families with similar surnames in all the states you mention. And I have
seen family trees online claiming that the Cloer family of NC is descended
from one of the Michael Clore's sons but none of them are documented in any
way.
Having said that, I would not discount the notion as a possibility of
course. It is just lacking any proof at this point. If I were a Clower or
Cloer I would not limit my research efforts to finding a place to fit in the
Germanna Clore family but pursue any other leads as well. One family that I
do believe to be linked is the Glore family of Franklin County, Kentucky.
Glore is a known variation of the Clore surname and I have a person I
suspect to be the father of the Glores there. But I cannot put them into
the "tree" until I find the proof.
Good luck with your search! Cathi Clore Frost
