I agree with Cary--until the Church of Latter Day Saints became involved, family history records were disjointed, disorganized, and practically impossible to find without visiting the location where the record originated. I am NOT a member of the LDS, but I do not find fault with them. They believe they can save souls by knowing family history to include all family members, and have worked diligently for many years to make their listing of names more complete. They have poured over thousands of pages of public records, family Bibles, etc. to make their work more complete. Without their help,?we would still be in the Dark Ages of genealogy!?
They have one agenda, we have another. But if their work helps others, God Bless 'Em!!!
Anybody trying to save my soul is my friend!!! Lord knows I need it!

Yes, the Family History Library is cited as the source. Just as I cite my
sources that way when I find info on microfilms. I do identify the name of
the document also.
When I see a reference from Ancestry that is to a microfilm at the Family
History Center, I check out the name of the microfilm. If it is something
Church records of Rocky Mountain High First Presbyterian Church, 1878-1904,
I put enough credence to the fact that I order the microfilm and check for
myself. Usually, there is much more info on the microfilm.

P.S. I still don't know who is attacking Ancestry and who is
defending--Sarge or Craig. It's been carried out according to the Rules of
Kingsbury or whatever. But it doesn't really matter at all. There are
pluses in minuses in all research facilities both online and off. It's up to
the researcher to determine the reliability. I would be nowhere near where
I am on my German research without the Family History Center's Branch
Centers.
