I am seeking information concerning my GGGGrandmother, Anna Marie
SANDSCHAFER and GGGrandmother, Catherine Theresa REHL PETRY STEVENS.
SANDSCHAFER
I found the following statement in the obituary of her granddaughter, my
GGrandmother, Elisabeth Margaretha SANDSCHAFER REPKING:
"At New Orleans they took the steamboat to St Louis where they arrived on
'Old Year's Day.' Here they remained three months during that time Mrs.
Repking's grandmother died. "
In the ship landings for New Orleans dated December 19, 1846, I found her
name listed as Anna Marie, aged 70. Since the only last name listed was John B.
SANSCHUPER, aged 42 , I assume she was his Mother. The rest of the names, and
ages, listed on the manifest agree with what is known of the family, so I am
certain it is the correct entry. The landing date came from John's
citizenship application.
Since they arrived in St Louis on December 31, 1846, and left three months
later, I assume Anna Marie died in that time interval.
Question: Is there any record available for January to March 1846, where her
death and burial might be recorded? The Family is Catholic and came from
Flamschen, Coesfeld, Westphalia, Germany.
STEVENS
Catherine Theresa REHL, was widowed August 09, 1862, when her husband Wilhelm
PETRY died. She married Bernard STEVENS on January 19, 1865, in Millstadt,
St Clair County, IL at St James Catholic Church. I have been unable to find
any mention of her, or her second husband since that time.
Question: Has anyone seen a reference to Bernard STEVENS or Catherine Theresa
STEVENS, nee REHL or DIEHL or RILL, in the St Louis area in the 1870 or 1880
timeframe?
Thank you.
Ronald J Repking
