The first newspaper in Germantown was issued, this being “Der Hochdeutsche Pennsilvanien Geschictsschreiber,” or “The High-German Pennsylvania Historical Record.” It came from the press of Christopher Sauer, the pioneer printer. Sauer arrived from Germany in 1724 and later built a house on Germantown avenue opposite Queen lane, where he conducted the business of clock maker, apothecary and book seller.
