Hello Everyone,
Well, things are getting interesting now. This past week or so has yielded some very interesting results.
First and foremost, we had our first success story with hooking someone up with a line! We have a participant who hit a brick wall with an ancestor born in 1794 in NC, and his DNA results were conclusive in tying his Gilberts to the Robert Gilbert of Worcester, England line. This line has deep roots in New England. The results don't tell him when or how he connects, but he now at least has a direction in which to work, and he also has cousins to help him! This Gilbert line seems rather prolific, and I wouldn't be surprised to see many more project participants hook into them. Mutations abound in this line, and I'm hoping that eventually with enough data, we might be able to pinpoint certain mutations to certain branches and more readily be able to tie people into them.
Secondly, the final 12 marker results are in for the Martin line who had matched my Gilbert line on 25 out of 25 markers. I had expected to see several mutations in these 12 markers ruling out a nearer term connection, but that was not the case. We matched 36 of 37 markers indicating in all probability a common ancestor with in the past 200 or 300 years. It's going to be like searching for a needle in a haystack to track down this connection, but we're hoping additional project participation by descendants of both lines might help. Another Martin participant who matched 12 of our markers is upgrading to 37 to see if her line might be a match too. Figuring this one out will be a real learning process.
I'm also happy to report two new project members. The first is another participant from here in the states who has roots in Frederick Co., MD, and we're currently early in the wait for his results from Family Tree DNA. It'll be interesting to see if he connects with the other Frederick Co., MD line that's already been tested.
The second new participant is our first Australian participant! His family migrated to Australia early in the 1900s, and his Gilbert roots are in Lancashire, England. His results are already posted and included in the results.
That's about it for now. Please e-mail if you have any questions.
Jane
