Subject: [GILLESPIE] Gillespies in Arkansas
Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 09:41:45 -0500
Hi,
I am new to the list and new to the search for my Gillespie(Gillaspi) ancestors in Arkansas. My father was James Doak Gillespie, b. 2/6/1897, d. 1/8/1998. He was born in Portia, Lawrence, AR. His father was James Morgan, b. 11/13/1857, d. 8/18/1899. He
died in Portia but I cannot locate his buriel site. He was married to Louiza Catherine McMillan (can't find her site either).
I believe James Morgan's father was also named James. The 1880 census shows James Morgan and Louiza in Lawrence County and Elizabeth, mother, age 44, born in Tennessee, living or visiting with them. I think this is James' mother because Louiza listed parents
being born in AL. No birthplace for Elizabeth's parents was listed. James also is listed as being born in Arkansas but parents being born in Tennessee. The surname spelling Gillaspi, which my father had confirmed many years ago, seems to have only been
used at that particular time. Thanks for any help.
