Hello list,

Below is something you might find interesting. Does anyone know any more about William Gilson of Derry Twp? Is this the William Gilson who descends from the English Gilsons of MA. or the William Gilson who descends from Richard Gilston/Gilson (Scotch-Irish) ? Sorry, to many Williams right now.

What I know about this William is that Fort Barr was also called Fort Gilson. I have found old references to this in historical books. Somewhere deep I have more info on the fort and surrounding areas. The articles only speak about William and not his forefathers. I do have some info on William Gilson of Mifflin Co. PA which says he descends from the MA English Gilsons. Can anyone on the list confirm or deny this? Unfortunately not all the info in the history books is correct so I am hoping that one of their descendents are on the list.

What I am looking for today is a link between Gilson and the name McIlvain. I know there is one but for the life of me cannot remember in which Gilson line. If anyone knows I would appreciate a post to the list. A Gilston researcher has a connection with this and the McIntosh family who lived in PA and later Ohio.

Thanks
Carina

Hi,
Does anyone know where the log cabin home of William Gilson of Derry Twp is
located? In an old newspaper article I have(1976) it says the cabin was
moved from it's original spot 50 yards from Fort Barr to "approximately six to
eight miles from Atlantic Number Three, about a mile northeast of New Derry."
The article goes on to say it's located on a deadend road. Also, does anyone
know the direction to Fort Barr Cemetery? I'm going to PA tomorrow and hope
to have a chance to visit the home and grave of my ancestor. Thanks for your
help.
Anne
