This is the Gilson Rootsweb genealogical list. Some of us with Scotch-Irish roots have found our Gilson name has been spelled Gelston, Gilston, Gilson, and Gillson or Gillson among the more common variations. As Dan pointed out there are lots of name variations. Very few of us are lucky enough to keep the same name spelling from the 1600's to present time.

Jillson is the English version of Gilson and is also found as Gillson. Our Gilson list hosts and enjoys Gilsons from across the world, therefore the ancestry roots are varied.

As for this being a chat line, we don't do much of that. If you have something to contribute genealogically please post to the list. The list is slow these days and any information, questions, or genealogical theories or inquiries are always welcomed.

Have you posted your line and which Gilson you are looking for to the list? I don't recall you weighing in at the roll call last month.

If you are a Jillson/Gilson descendent I have the book with the addendum if you would like info from it.

I really appreciated Susan's Gelston transcriptions and especially her sharing it with the list. Also, it is now in archives for new researchers and there are others on this list that will benefit from them.

Sometimes narrow minded thinking on name spelling really hampers genealogical research as we search back for those elusive ancestors.
