Hello Stephen,
Not much joy, I'm afraid - no mention of your grandfather at all,
perhaps because he died a couple of months after the end of the war (?) I've
come across a couple of other cases where people are missing when they died
after the Armistice.
I only found one other Gunter who was born in Newbury, and none who resided
or enlisted there. The one I did find was Ivo Gunter of the 1st Battalion,
Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He was born Newbury, enlisted
Guildford, and resided at Farnborough, Hants. He was a Lance Corporal, army
number 8212 and he died on June 3rd, 1916 in Mesopotamia.
Hope this helps, Stephen
