My great grandmother was Ellin, the double L being pronounced the Welsh way.
She came from Llanfrothen in Meirionethshire.
is it possible your great grandmother's name was Elliw ? This is pronounced in the way you mention. There are four in the early years of the 1881 census, 3 in North Wales, the other in Cardigan and at least one young lady still with us here in Criccieth !
