Members of Swansea branch of Glamorgan Family History Society have been
working on transcribing the two statistical surveys done under the auspices
of the Royal Institution of South Wales, as Swansea Museum was then known.
The second survey, with religious affiliation and place of origin, is
interesting as it complements the 1841 census, though sadly there is very
little address information - pages and pages with the same general district
name for example.
It was in the early 1840s, I seem to recall, that one of the luminaries of
the RISW hit on the novel idea of having street names painted on slate and
fixed to the walls of houses at street corners, and another novel idea of
having numbers painted onto the doors of houses.

I will pass your query on and you may get a specific reply in due course to
your query.

I have read somewhere about Hugh Mahony and his career with the RISW, but
can't immediately place the source.

I assume that you have looked at the 'Cambrian Index'
www.swansea.gov.uk/cambrian

Not a lot of MAHONY entries, but a search on MAHONEY would merit a title
'all human life is there'.

Is this one your man ?
BUILDINGS, RESIDENTIAL, URBAN HOUSING 17 May 1878 FOR SALE: 8 TO 12 BURNHAM
STREET,WALTER'S ROAD,ON INSTRUCTIONS FROM HUGH MAHONEY WHO IS GOING TO
AUSTRALIA. P4

This is probably Burman Street.
