Hi Joan,
''Marsh''
Was St Philips Marsh often referred to as The Marsh,
It was about 20 min's walk from St Philip & Jacobs Church,
It was a Industrial area, engine sheds, railway goods depot, saw mills, iron
& marble works, soap works, and many more,
In 1868 St Silas Church opened and St Silas school followed in 1874.
The houses in the Marsh had no bathrooms, the loo was out the back, there
were shops on every corner and was a place were people never lock there
doors.
If you want to know more email me off list,
Carole I lived in the Marsh for years.
