Subject: [GLSHIPS-L] Ship registry

>Was there, or is there, a registry for ships (port authority records,
ownership records, insurance records, loss claim records, etc.) that sailed
the Great Lakes in the time period of 1850-1870 (particularly out of
Detroit, where he lived)? Something that would connect Capt. Nicholas
Atwood's name with a particular ship would be most helpful. Family
tradition has it that he may have been part owner.

There is a message by Brendon Baillod with information on where these lists
are at.
Those would definately connect a name with a ship.
