#621 GODWIN, WILSON 1816-1899 BERRIEN COUNTY, GA

Wilson Godwin was born in Bulloch County 7/3/1816, son of Jonah and Rebecca
Godwin. He moved with his mother and step-father to Lowndes County where he
was reared. Wilson spent a few years in Thomas County where he was in the
Indian War. He then came to what is now Berrien County, where he married on
12/16/1866 to Mrs. Minerva Jane Peeples, a widow and daughter of Samuel D.
Morris. To them three children were born:

1. Josephine b. 1870 m. Q. B. Morgan. Died 1907.
2. David J. b 1867 m. (1) Mary J. Lee (2) Mrs. Miranda McLaughlin.
3. Julian H. b. 1872 m. Mrs. Emma Kirkland Baldree.

Wilson Godwin was in the Confederate Army from Nashville and in 1870 he moved
to Clinch County. In 1875, he and his family moved to Campbell County, and in
1881 they moved back to Clinch County where he lived the remainder of his
life. Minerva Godwin died about 1880 and is buried at St. Paul Church,
Fayette County, three miles from Whitesburg, Georgia. WIlson Godwin died on
2/4/1899, and is buried at Red Bluff Church.
