I am coming in a bit late on this, but I have transcribed many a Parish
Register by using separate columns for year and date.
Excel then sorts the year column as a number and and the date and other
columns follow when sorting. This may be a 'cop-out' but it works.
The only problem remaining is the year ending change from early April to
January 1st! I haven't cracked that one.
